Ohio BWC Safety Congress And Expo Begins Three Day Event

Columbus, OH  (CompNewsNetwork) - Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Administrator Marsha Ryan today kicked off the 78th Annual Ohio Safety Congress & Expo. The three-day event, being held in the Greater Columbus Convention Center, provides Ohio employers with an opportunity to learn the latest workplace safety trends while earning credits for BWC discount programs.

In her opening comments, Ryan discussed the importance of developing a culture of safety within an organization, to not only protect the worker, but to also protect the company’s finances and encourage economic growth in Ohio.

"The importance of safety reaches far beyond the physical workplace," said Ryan. "Safety impacts the rates for Ohio’s overall workers’ comp product, which in turn affects the ability of our state to foster economic growth and create jobs."

Ryan also unveiled the agency’s new mission statement, which draws upon the historical purpose behind BWC’s creation 1912. "Protecting the health of Ohio’s work force and protecting our business community from financial difficulties has been at the core of BWC’s mission since it was founded nearly 100 years ago," said Ryan. "Today, our mission holds to the same principles, to protect injured workers and employers from loss as a result of workplace accidents, and to enhance the health and well-being of all Ohioans and the Ohio economy."

Additionally, Ryan shared details of organizational and programmatic reforms under way at BWC. "We are working toward positive change to create a workers’ compensation system that is fair, stable and provides outstanding service to Ohio’s injured workers and employers," she added.
