Nebraska Governor Heineman Announces Catherine Lang To Head Department Of Labor

                               

Lincoln, NE  (CompNewsNetwork) - Gov. Dave Heineman has named Catherine D. Lang of Lincoln to serve as Commissioner of the Nebraska Department of Labor. She will begin on Sept.15.

Lang, 51, has served in state government since 1981. In August 2007, she started as the Deputy Tax Commission for the Nebraska Department of Revenue. Prior to this appointment, Lang served as Property Tax Administrator and was the Director for the Department of Property Assessment and Taxation. Lang has also served as the Director of the Property Tax Division and Special Counsel to the Tax Commissioner.

“I am pleased Cathy has agreed to serve as Commissioner of Labor,” Gov. Heineman said. “Cathy has a vast amount of knowledge and experience with state government. She is a strong leader and a proven problem-solver. Cathy will serve the department well and continue to help Nebraskans in her new capacity.”

Lang said, “This is a very exciting opportunity. The Department of Labor is a key agency in assuring that our great state is poised to meet the economic opportunities that await us. I look forward to working with business, education and labor leaders to assure that the state is doing everything it can to see that everyone succeeds.”

Lang received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 1978 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a law degree in 1983 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law.

Lang is an active member in the community, currently serving as the President of Lincoln Rotary Club 14 and a Board of Trustees member of the Sheldon Art Association. Lang’s salary will remain at her current salary of $111,394.

The Commissioner of Labor and the Department of Labor work to foster, promote and develop the welfare of wage earners; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; adopt and enforce industrial safety codes; enforce state laws governing working conditions hours of labor and employment of children; and administer the Employment Security Law.
