Baton Rouge, LA (CompNewsNetwork) - The Louisiana Department of Insurance Consumer Advocate, Clarissa A. Preston, will be introduced to the residents of northwest Louisiana at LSU Shreveport on June 19, 2008. The Louisiana Consortium of Insurance and Financial Services is hosting the event. Preston will discuss important insurance topics including residential property storm mitigation incentives, top legislative issues, the 2008 storm season and flood insurance, new insurance companies writing in Louisiana and the depopulation of the Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, and recently reduced Workers' Compensation insurance rates.

Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon appointed Preston as Deputy Commissioner of the newly created Office of Consumer Advocacy within the Department of Insurance in September 2007. Prior to this appointment Preston served as Deputy Commissioner of the Department's Office of Property & Casualty where she oversaw the consumer affairs and insurance rating and policy forms divisions, along with the Louisiana Property and Casualty Insurance Commission.

She is a certified insurance counselor (CIC) and was recently honored by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors for her dedication and leadership in insurance.
