Los Angeles, CA (CompNewsNetwork) - Officials with the California State Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (Labor Commissioner's Office) issued 54 citations totaling more than $279,500 in fines to construction firms in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties for various labor law violations in a recent two-day enforcement sweep.
Teams of investigators conducted the sweeps of 120 companies in the five counties. To request a complete list of the violations and businesses cited, email the Department of Industrial Relations at: Communications@dir.ca.gov.
Violations uncovered during the May 14 and 15 inspections include failure to:
provide workers' compensation insurance
provide itemized deduction statements to
employees
obtain a California contractor's license
“The construction industry, like all others in California, must purchase workers' compensation insurance and properly pay their employees,” said California Labor Commissioner Angela Bradstreet. “Contractors are also required to be licensed, and those who operate outside the law have an unfair advantage over their competitors. It's our job to protect workers and level the playing field for those in the construction industry who do follow the law.”
The DLSE adjudicates wage claims, investigates discrimination and public works
complaints, and enforces state labor law and Industrial Welfare Commission wage orders. To
