Santa Rosa/San Francisco, CA (CompNewsNetwork) - California State Compensation Insurance Fund, in partnership with the California Utility Public Safety Alliance, is hosting a seminar entitled “Contractor Beware: Safety Around Overhead and Underground Gas and Electric Lines.” Offered at no charge as part of State Fund's Employer Education Series, the one-hour morning presentation includes sessions for construction and agriculture. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, at State Fund's Regional Office in Santa Rosa, Calif.

Featured speaker Charles Basham, Manager of Public Safety at Southern California Edison, will discuss safe work practices around utilities and how to assist others with jobsite safety. By establishing and using safeguards for employees and the public, employers can help reduce injuries and fatalities that occur each year during construction and agricultural work around natural gas and/or electric lines.

The seminar takes place in State Fund's Regional Office at 1450 Neotomas Avenue, Santa Rosa. On-site registration starts at 7:30 a.m., and the presentation runs from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This event includes refreshments, and free parking is available.

Seating is limited, so State Fund encourages early registration either online, or by e-mail (deccles@scif.com), phone (call Donna Eccles at 707-573-6358), or fax (Attention: Donna Eccles, 707-573-6688).

The Santa Rosa seminar is part of a series of educational programs State Fund is holding throughout the state to help employers create safe workplaces. State Fund has the largest safety and health services program among California workers' compensation insurance carriers.

Headquartered in San Francisco, State Compensation Insurance Fund is California's largest provider of workers' compensation insurance with approximately 200,000 policyholders. Established by the Legislature in 1914, State Fund is a nonprofit, self-supporting, fairly competitive public enterprise that serves a dual role as both a market of choice and the safety net for California employers seeking workers' compensation insurance.
