Hartford, CT (CompNewsNetwork) - The Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission is pleased to announce that  Christine L. Engel has been named Workers' Compensation Commissioner.  A graduate of Pennsylvania State University and Southern Connecticut State University in Art Education, as well as Fairfield University in Education Administration and Supervision, Commissioner Engel received her Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1990.

Following her years as an art teacher at Woodbury Middle School, Engel practiced law at Jackson, O'Keefe and Dunn, where she drafted correspondence and pleadings in civil and family cases, commercial and residential leases, wills, and living wills; while there she also researched issues in real estate law, insurance law, personal injury, product liability, and medical malpractice. More recently, Engel practiced at Nicholas & Johnson, LLC, primarily in workers' compensation, but also representing clients in social security disability claims, real estate closings, personal injury actions, and family matters.

In addition to becoming a Board Certified Expert in Workers' Compensation in 2003, Engel's achievements and activities include her mentorship of University of Connecticut first year law students, her work as a pro bono volunteer for the Law Works for People, her service as a Fact Finder/Arbitrator for Superior Court in Civil Matters, and her work as Special Master for Family Cases (Waterbury J.D. and Litchfield J.D.).
