Alaska Governor Palin Proclaims June as “Safety Month” in Alaska

Juneau, AK  (CompNewsNetwork) - Governor Sarah Palin proclaimed June as “Safety Month” in Alaska. This proclamation coincides with the National Safety Council's “June is National Safety Month 2008” campaign. The theme of this year's effort is “Make a Difference” and focuses on emergency preparedness, distracted driving, poisoning prevention and fall prevention.

The most recent available statistics rank Alaska with the highest workplace fatality rate and the highest Workers' Compensation Insurance rates in the nation. “To make a change, we need to get Alaskans focused on working safer,” said Labor Commissioner Click Bishop. “Improving workplace safety and health is one of the department's top priorities.”

June is typically an extremely busy month with summer season activities shifting into high gear in Alaska. By taking the time to stop and think about safety, Alaskans will have a more successful and rewarding summer season.
