A.S.V., Inc., Receives Minnesota Safety And Health Award

St Paul, MN  (CompNewsNetwork) - Workplace safety and health representatives from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) will recognize A.S.V., Inc. (ASV) for its achievement as a Minnesota Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (MNSHARP) worksite.

MNSHARP is a Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MNOSHA) program that recognizes companies where managers and employees work together to develop safety and health programs that go beyond basic compliance with all applicable OSHA standards and result in immediate and long-term prevention of job-related injuries and illnesses. DLI Commissioner Steve Sviggum will address the company and present the award.

"We congratulate ASV for its MNSHARP achievement," said Commissioner Sviggum. "We applaud their efforts to design and implement a safety and health plan that ensures more working men and women return home each day to their families and friends ... safe and sound."

To achieve MNSHARP status, the company worked with MNOSHA Workplace Safety Consultation to assemble a comprehensive safety and health program that includes management leadership and employee involvement, an allocation of resources to address safety issues, systems that identify and control workplace hazards, and a plan for employee safety training and education.

"This MNSHARP process has helped our employees implement new and improved training programs to identify hazards and make suggestions to reduce them," said Dave Christianson, ASV safety and facilities manager. "Now, our Safety and Ergonomics Committee is stronger due to more employee involvement and this provides a safer and healthier place to work."

ASV's Cohasset plant is dedicated to the assembly of the company's patented rubber-track undercarriages. Workers at the facility assemble nearly a dozen different undercarriage configurations, the majority of which are used at its Grand Rapids, Minn., plant for ASV-branded products. The Grand Rapids plant designs, manufactures and sells rubber-track machines and related components, accessories and attachments.

Commissioner Sviggum and other DLI representatives will commemorate the company's employee-employer partnership by presenting a MNSHARP flag and a certificate that exempts the worksite from MNOSHA Compliance scheduled inspections for two years.

MNSHARP began in Minnesota in 1996. ASV is one of 29 active MNSHARP worksites in Minnesota. For more information, visit www.doli.state.mn.us/mnsharp.html.
