The NC Industrial Commission has begun issuing decisions in the first extended benefits cases since the 500-week cap on temporary total disability benefits passed during the 2011 reforms of the Workers’ Compensation Act. Based on these decisions that have been almost ten years in the making, this presentation will cover the history behind the statute, recent extended benefits cases and what the outcomes could signal, and defense strategies when faced with an extended benefits case.
