Beyond PT Basics: FCEs, Work Conditioning, and Ergonomics

Course Description:
A safe return to work outcome is the goal. Every worker injured on the job eventually wants to heal and return to work, but sometimes general physical therapy and/or conservative care is not enough to ensure the employee has recovered the mobility and motor skills required to do their job without risk of re-injury. When additional intervention is needed, there are several options that focus on evaluation of function, restoration of job specific tasks, and identifying opportunities to adapt work to the worker in a proactive approach to achieve better results. These approaches may include advanced work rehabilitation (formerly referred to as work conditioning or work hardening), ergonomics assessments, and functional capacity evaluations. The intent is to ensure such employees have optimized their recovery and are fully prepared to rejoin the workforce while mitigating the risk of re-injury.
