This introductory webinar provides a foundational overview of core insurance coverage concepts. Participants will learn how to identify preliminary coverage issues, read key policy sections, understand the insurer’s duties, and prepare basic coverage correspondence.

Elizabeth Armstrong

Elizabeth Armstrong is an experienced construction defect attorney licensed in Oregon and Washington, with a unique background that blends legal expertise and engineering training. She focuses her practice on construction defect litigation, representing clients in technically complex matters where a deep understanding of building systems and industry practices is essential.

Before practicing law, Elizabeth worked as a mechanical systems design and analysis engineer for Boeing and served in the United States Navy, experiences that continue to inform her practical and analytical approach to construction-related disputes. She earned her Juris Doctor from Lewis & Clark Law School, where she also obtained a certificate in intellectual property law, served as an associate editor of the Environmental Law Review, and competed on the regional mock trial team. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from Gonzaga University.

Elizabeth is an active member of both the Oregon and Washington State Bar Associations and is the author of a published law review article examining the “Best Available Science” mandate in the Ninth Circuit. Outside of her legal practice, she enjoys cooking, coaching youth volleyball, participating in adult sports leagues, and spending time with her family.

Jack loves serving the men and women who work in the built environment, and he gives back to that community by educating them on quality assurance and risk management issues. Jack's practice also includes insurance coverage, professional liability and real estate disputes.

Greg Shaw

Claims Tech Specialist, Selective Insurance

Greg Shaw is a highly creative, results-oriented insurance professional with over five years of experience in commercial claims handling and leadership within the insurance industry. He currently serves as a Construction Defect Claims Supervisor at Selective Insurance, where he leads the handling of complex construction defect and general liability claims across multi-year, E&S, and standard line policies. Previously, Greg held roles as a Complex Claims Specialist and Claims Technical Specialist, managing both litigated and non-litigated matters involving high-exposure and high-value losses.

Greg brings deep expertise in coverage analysis, valuation, contractual risk transfer, defense and indemnification obligations, and multi-state regulatory compliance. He has extensive experience resolving claims through early resolution strategies, mediation, arbitration, and trial, while maintaining accurate coverage documentation and timely communication with internal teams, insureds, counsel, and business partners. Known for his leadership, coaching, and relationship-building skills, Greg is self-driven, highly motivated, and thrives in fast-paced environments. He is passionate about leveraging strong customer service, collaboration, and strategic problem-solving to deliver effective outcomes and make a meaningful impact on the business.
