Schaumburg, IL (WorkersCompensation.com) - When Zurich Insurance was first licensed in the United States on Dec. 17, 1912, becoming one of the first continental European casualty insurers in the United States, the company had a simple goal, to help a growing country, grow more. Over the last 100 years in the U.S., Zurich has kept that promise by supporting America in some of its largest endeavors, from insuring the construction of Chicago's Soldier Field in 1924, the first section of the Chicago subway in 1930 and Chicago's 1933 World's Fair to providing the largest portion of insurance for the construction of the Hoover Dam from 1931 to 1936.
In celebrating its rich history of giving back, this year Zurich challenged its employees across the nation to complete more than 100 community service projects during the company's centennial year as part of its 100 Ways program, which aims to make a sustainable difference in the communities Zurich serves.
Today, as Zurich celebrates 100 years of insuring America, the company is pleased to announce that its employees have not only met the goals outlined in the 100 Ways program but have far exceeded expectations. Working alongside organizations like the American Red Cross, HandsOn Network, Habitat for Humanity and the United Way, Zurich North America employees volunteered 30,000 hours to complete 531 projects and aid 259 charities, donating goods valued at more than $600,000.
“For 100 years in the U.S., Zurich has encouraged our people to give of their time and talent to benefit the communities in which we live and work. Our anniversary has given us the opportunity to celebrate these values, and further contribute through the 100 Ways program,” said Mike Foley, CEO North America Commercial division of Zurich Insurance Group and Regional Chairman of North America. “I'm very proud of what we've achieved this year and over the past 100 years.”
