TX DWC Encourages Safety Behind the Wheel During Drive Safely Work Week and Beyond

Austin, TX (WorkersCompensation.com) - The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) is sponsoring the national Drive Safely Work Week campaign from October 6 - 10, 2014. The Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) encourages employers to address driving and vehicular hazards in their accident prevention programs on an ongoing basis.
Transportation incidents are the leading cause of work-related fatal injuries in Texas. A variety of industries and occupations require Texas employees to drive or to be exposed to driving hazards on the job. To minimize these hazards, it is important for employers to implement and enforce written safety programs and policies, and to provide training for their employees who work in and around motor vehicles. Whether employees drive as a part of their job, to and from work, or around town after leaving work, driving is likely the most dangerous activity they perform on a daily basis.
The Drive Safely Work Week campaign materials provide information and tools for employers to integrate elements of safe driving into their core safety culture. The NETS campaign theme, "Driving Your Safety Culture Home," includes four areas of emphasis: leadership commitment; engaging employees about seat belt use and eliminating mobile device operation while driving; extending road safety culture into employee homes and community; and sustaining the road safety emphasis throughout the year.
