TDI Announces 17th Annual Texas Safety Summit for Employers and Employees May 14-16 in Austin

Austin, TX (WorkersCompensation.com) – The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation (TDI-DWC) will host the 17th Annual Workplace Safety and Health Conference, the Texas Safety Summit, from May 14-16, 2013 in Austin at the Doubletree Hotel Austin, located at 6505 IH-35 North. The TDI-DWC is hosting the conference to help all employers reduce injuries and their associated costs through workplace safety and return-to-work programs. This conference is open to all segments of the Texas workforce, including small and large employers, public and private sector employers, and workers' compensation subscribers and non-subscribers.
Two optional pre-conference sessions entitled Basic Workers' Compensation for Employers and Effective Safety Committees will be offered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 14. These sessions are held concurrently and are free to attend with registration.
This year's general sessions will include the following presentations:
- Distracted Driving: A Growing Epidemic presented by David Teater of the National Safety Council;
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Region VI Update presented by John Hermanson, Regional Administrator of OSHA, Region VI;
- Putting the E Back in Safety presented by Jeff Smagacz of Risk Management Group, Inc.; and
- The Buried Truth Uncovered presented by Eric Giguere of Safety Awareness Solutions.
In addition, the Texas Safety Summit will offer more than 30 breakout sessions covering a variety of workplace safety and health related topics, including effective safety management processes and systems, workplace violence prevention, hazardous materials and communication standards, transportation safety, regulatory compliance, and much more.
The Texas Safety Summit is a learning opportunity for all types of people in an array of industries who play a role in safeguarding Texas employees, including office managers, human resources representatives, managers and supervisors, union safety representatives, safety committee representatives, risk and loss control managers, occupational safety or industrial hygiene professionals, and safety trainers. The registration fee for the conference is $275 per person if registered by April 30, 2013, and $300 per person if registered on or after May 1, 2013. Discounted rates are available for groups or employers that send five or more participants.
Texas State Technical College in Waco will provide Continuing Education Credits (CEUs). Attendees will be eligible to receive .1 CEU per hour of attendance on May 14, 15 and 16, 2013.
