State Agencies Partner to Create Career Pathway for Ohio Injured Workers

Columbus, OH (WorkersCompensation.com) - Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) Administrator/CEO Steve Buehrer today announced the agency is partnering with the Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) to help Ohio's injured workers return to employment. The BWC/OhioMeansJobs Program will link workers whose injuries restrict them from performing their previous job responsibilities, or who want to learn new skills, with the job-placement resources available at OhioMeansJobs.com. It will also establish a skilled talent pipeline for Ohio employers seeking workers for in-demand jobs.

"BWC's number one priority is to help injured workers recover from their injuries and return to work in order to ease the disruption to their lives and the lives of their families," said Buehrer. "Choosing a new career path can be particularly intimidating following a workplace injury, so we're pleased to partner with ODJFS to link injured workers with opportunities at Ohio businesses seeking to fill in-demand positions."

Beginning May 4, all injured workers receiving job placement services within a vocational rehabilitation program will be required to use the resources on OhioMeansJobs.com for their job searches. OhioMeansJobs.com will assist injured workers who need job placement services to navigate their job search and will allow employers to search for them on the website based on their skills and work experience.

Workers not in a vocational rehabilitation program will also be encouraged to utilize OhioMeansJobs.com and will be referred to their county's Ohio-MeansJobs Center for any needed one-on-one support and guidance.

"Injured workers can use OhioMeansJobs.com and their local OhioMeansJobs Centers to explore careers in in-demand occupations, learn about training and educational opportunities, craft resumes and find jobs," said ODJFS Director Cynthia Dungey. "We are thrilled to partner with BWC to connect more Ohio workers with these invaluable resources."
