19 Nov, 2012 WorkersCompensation.com
Columbia, SC (WorkersCompensation.com) - Statute 42-1-410 of the South Carolina Code of Laws provides a General Contractor may be held liable for injuries sustained by employees of its sub-contractor if the sub-contractor fails to acquire or maintain proper Workers' Compensation Insurance coverage. The SC Workers' Compensation Commission has developed a system to notify a General Contractor via email if a sub-contractor appears to have failed to maintain Workers' Compensation Insurance. This system is provided free of charge and requires the General Contractor to register for this notification service.
The SCWCC Lapse in Insurance Notification User Guide includes instructions on how to register for this notification service. To view a copy of the User Guide, please visit the Coverage Division page on their website.
