Lansing, MI (WorkersCompensation.com) - The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has summarily suspended the pharmacist license of Ashwani Kumar Sharma, R.Ph., of Canton based on his convictions in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.
On August 10, 2012, Sharma was convicted of one felony count of Health Care Fraud Conspiracy (18 U.S.C. Sec. 1349) and one felony count of Conspiracy to Distribute Controlled Substances (21 U.S.C. Sec. 846). Sharma is scheduled to be sentenced on January 29, 2013.
On January 11, 2013, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Sharma's license pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction. Further, the order allowed LARA to seize all controlled substances owned or possessed by Sharma.
