IAIABC Launches Education Program For Work Comp Agency Professionals

Madison, WI (WorkersCompensation.com) - To help prepare the future leaders of workers' compensation agencies, The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) has developed a formal education program. IAIABC Foundations of Workers' Compensation Administration Program will offer 10 courses in 2015, starting Jan. 12.

“Foundations unites agency personnel from around the world in the understanding and application of the principles of workers' compensation,” said IAIABC Executive Director Jennifer Wolf Horejsh.  “While all jurisdictions are different, they face the same core issues.”

Combining on-line modules, webinars and face-to-face courses at IAIABC's spring and fall conferences, Foundations' flexible format is meant to accommodate the needs people working in a busy administrative government agency. Courses cover the history of work comp and its regulatory, legal, and administrative aspects along with coverage mechanisms, claims, disputes, medical management, and leadership. Detailed descriptions and tuition fees are available at www.iaiabc.org/foundations.

“We designed its content to build both knowledge and leadership,” Wolf Horejsh added.

Part of the impetus for Foundations was agencies' concern over the loss of institutional knowledge as employees retired.  IAIABC crafted the curriculum to help preserve and transfer that institutional knowledge.

With more than 100 years combined experience, faculty members have expertise in both private and government sectors.  “Courses will be taught by subject matter experts,” said Keri Lore, IAIABC's Education and Resource Coordinator. ”Many have worked in multiple jurisdictions and can explain how certain workers' compensation principles were shaped by different jurisdictions.”

Certification is available upon successful completion of the Foundations coursework. Safety National Casualty Corporation supports Foundations as a premier program sponsor.
