Washington, DC (WorkersCompensation.com) -  ICMA, the International City/County Management Association, and Cigna, a global health services company, today announced the signing of a three-year agreement. The strategic partnership enables Cigna to reinforce its goal of helping local governments improve the health and wellness of their employees and dependents, while serving as the exclusive healthcare sponsor for ICMA.

As part of the new agreement, Cigna is as an Executive-Level Strategic Partner and Diamond-Level Annual Conference Sponsor.

"Cigna has long been a strong supporter of local government and improving the quality of life among our employees," said ICMA Executive Director Bob O'Neill. "This continued relationship with Cigna will allow us to further enhance the range and scope of the professional development opportunities available through our national and regional conferences as well as year 'round through all of our digital and print mediums and, in turn, assist us in achieving our mission of enhancing the health and wellness of our government employees."

"Cigna offers unique health and wellness benefits and services to local government employees and their families with proven successes that accomplish both health improvement and the reduction of health care costs. We are pleased to continue our longstanding support of ICMA and the opportunity to support local governments," says Sheila McGinley, president of Cigna's government segment.

Activities that will take place under the ICMA-Cigna agreement include a range of support for health benefit education and awareness such as: the development of ICMA Annual Conference program content; sponsorship by Cigna of health and active living topic pages on the Local Government Knowledge Network co-created by ICMA; web and print content and white paper development and publishing. The agreement goes into effect immediately and covers the calendar years of 2012, 2013, and 2014.
