Columbia, MD (WorkersCompensation.com) - The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and key stakeholders in the elevator industry have signed an alliance to protect industry employees and promote workplace safety and health nationwide.
The two-year alliance is a partnership between OSHA's 10 regions and elevator industry stakeholders. Alliance partners will provide information, guidance and training resources to help reduce and prevent employee exposure to the “Focus Four” hazards – falls, caught-in or between, struck-by and electrocution – and other recognized safety and health hazards during the construction, modernization, maintenance and repair of conveyances within the elevator industry. The alliance will also focus on providing information on employees' rights and employers' responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
The elevator industry stakeholders consist of representatives of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, National Elevator Industry Inc., National Association of Elevator Contractors, Elevator Contractors of America, Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund and the National Elevator Industry Educational Program.
The OSHA Alliance Program fosters collaborative relationships with groups committed to worker safety and health. Alliance partners help OSHA reach targeted audiences, such as employers and workers in high-hazard industries, giving them better access to workplace safety and health tools and information.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees.
