Globalization of Risk Management

  • 04/17/19
  • Kimberly George

Each January, Out Front Ideas with Kimberly and Mark (outfrontideas.com) identifies 20 Issues to Watch. The list is comprised of insurance and healthcare topics my co-host, Mark Walls, VP strategic communications and analysis with Safety National, and I believe need more industry stakeholder attention. Globalization of risk management made the 2019 list because global risks are of top concern for risk managers worldwide.

Businesses are increasingly operating in international markets. This may include opening new offices, developing new distribution channels, product development, data storage and sales. Organizations with exposure in other countries are typically well aware of compliance challenges they face thanks to ever-changing regulations. However, not all risks with international operations are equal. Even businesses that do not have employees in other countries can find themselves faced with the obligation to monitor or even follow international regulations if they have a global online presence or work with vendors in other countries. Understanding the global risk landscape is more important today than ever before.

This Wednesday, April 17 at 11:00 am central, the next Out Front Ideas with Kimberly and Mark webinar is focused on the globalization of risk management. Guests include Maggie Biggs, vice president insurance and risk management for VF Corporation, Kevin Hoskinson, a global risk management client executive at Marsh, Mary Roth, chief executive officer of Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), and David Stills, vice president global risk management at Walmart.

Join us to learn more about the structure of global risk management programs, and resources to support a business' global needs. What are lessons learned from U.S. risk managers working in the international risk space? How is RIMS evolving to support its international members? Are risk management standards and international practices realistic? Register here: http://www.outfrontideas.com/our-next-discussion/.

And, plan to continue the conversation of global risk management, business interruption, cyber risks, and natural catastrophes with our Sedgwick team at RIMS in Boston April 29 - May 1, 2019.
