One Call Establishes the Kids' Chance of Florida One Call Scholarship

Jacksonville, FL (WorkersCompensation.com) - One Call, the nation's leading provider of specialized healthcare solutions for the workers' compensation industry, today announced the first ever Kids' Chance of Florida One Call Scholarship in support of the Florida state chapter of Kids' Chance of America, a non-profit whose mission is to provide college scholarships to children of seriously or fatally injured workers.

The announcement comes during Kids' Chance Awareness Week (Nov. 12-16), a week dedicated to raising awareness of the educational needs of children who can no longer depend on the income of an injured or deceased parent.

“While One Call is proud to be a corporate sponsor of Kids' Chance at the national level, we wanted to make an impact in our own backyard,” said Chris Watson, chief operating officer at One Call, headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. “The Kids' Chance of Florida One Call Scholarship puts faces and names to the students we're helping, which is very meaningful for our employees who make connections with injured workers every day by assisting in their healthcare and recovery needs.”

The scholarship fund commits to covering state college tuition for four years for one student whose parent was hurt on the job in Florida; however, the more money raised, the more students it will benefit. The scholarship has been set up to be employee-funded to further instill pride in the service-oriented mission of the company. To kick off fundraising, One Call will be asking all employees to make a donation or participate in a raffle drawing during Kids' Chance Awareness Week.

One Call's support at the state level is especially beneficial to Kids Chance of Florida since each Kids' Chance chapter operates as an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization with its own fundraising needs.

“We're so grateful to have the support of One Call,” said Robert Wilson, president of Kids' Chance of Florida. “We hope the example they're setting will catch on with others within the industry. There's no better way to feel connected to your work than to see the direct impact you're having on the families of the injured workers you're serving.”

In addition to monetary support, Kids' Chance is always in need of referrals. The organization strongly believes there are more children of injured workers out there who would benefit from a Kids' Chance scholarship.

One Call will learn who will be the first recipient of the Kids' Chance of Florida One Call Scholarship in the summer of 2019.

Kids' Chance of Florida

Kids' Chance of Florida is a state chapter of Kids' Chance of America, a charitable organization that is dedicated to making a significant difference in the lives of all children affected by a workplace injury by helping them pursue and achieve their educational goals. Children of these workers can no longer count on the income of the injured or deceased parent. Accompanying the grief of loss, or the need to deal with an injured parent, is the increased likelihood that they cannot afford a college education. Since its founding in 1988, Kids' Chance of America has awarded 6,597 scholarships totaling over $20,393,000!
