I'm off to Minneapolis this morning, attending the annual seminar put on by the National Workers' Compensation Defense Network (NWCDN). The NWCDN is a group of very skilled defense law firms, and they have produced these seminars for their clients and interested employers and insurance professionals for well over a decade. It has grown exponentially; I understand this year that registrations are around 250 people.
The NWCDN has the ability to bring in excellent speakers. This year Bob Lund, JD, President & CEO of SFM Mutual Insurance Company will be speaking on “The Workers' Compensation Insurance Industry's Take on Today, with a Peak Around the Corner to See Tomorrow.” I've spoken on that topic a number of times myself, and I am very interested in learning Mr. Lund's take on things.
Another panel I am quite interested in hearing from is “Technology and Tools in Healthcare to Advance Better Outcomes in Workers' Compensation,” with Richard Migliori, M.D. Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealth Group and Teresa Bartlett, M.D., Senior Vice President and Medical Officer of Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc. The moderator of that event is Fred Baker of Wimberly Lawson Wright Daves & Jones, PLLC. I intend to attend the annual CES® Conference in Las Vegas in January, and have been increasingly interested in technology that will be impacting the medical services our industry must use. I expect the session to be pretty interesting, as there is much going on in that space.
I will write follow up posts for the event. I've made no secret that the NWCDN events rank among my favorite. Their members represent an astounding collection of knowledge and skill, and they are a great group of people to spend a few days with. They definitely make it worth the trip.
