It has been a long time in the planning, and we've had at least one false start (that was entirely my fault), but we are finally ready to announce next week that a new webinar series for the workers' comp industry will be launched in September.
But we're not announcing it until next week, so please don't tell anybody. Let's just keep this between the two of us for the moment.
Hosted by Judge David Langham and myself, the “Hot Seat” will not be like any other webinar currently produced for the workers' comp industry. The tag line, “Raw, unscripted and unrehearsed. The way webinars were meant to be.”, should tell you a little about the format we have planned. There probably won't be many PowerPoints, and everyone will not present in scheduled 15 minute increments. The “Hot Seat” will be conversational, and at times confrontational, as Judge Langham and I engage up to four guests on hot topics of the day.
It is not that we think the workers' comp industry is being underserved by the current crop of webinar offerings. Quite the opposite is true. There is a lot of good educational information already available. It is just that we think this genre of webinar has not yet been made available for our community. An open, freewheeling and direct conversation over challenging issues should both inform and entertain.
At least that is our goal. For fans of the recently cancelled television show “Last Man Standing”, I can sum up the perceived difference this way; think “traditional marketing video” versus “Mike Baxter Vlog”.
If you missed the point, the “Hot Seat” will be closer to the vlog, but with up to six people.
The “Hot Seat” will run quarterly. Our inaugural episode will be on Friday, September 29, 2017. I am very pleased that our guests for this initial run will be Prium's Mark “RxProfessor” Pew, and Texas Workers' Compensation Commissioner Ryan Brannan. The show is titled “Opioids and Formularies: Going to Pot?” If you know these two people, you will realize it should be a fairly entertaining event.
Plus, there is a better than average chance we will settle the question of what constitutes true barbecue, but I can't say for sure. It will be, as I pointed out, raw, unscripted and unrehearsed.
After all, that is the way webinars were intended to be.
We will formally announce next week, so watch for that in the CompNewsNetwork area. Registration will open shortly after the announcement.
Until then, this will be our own little secret.
