Christie Admin Honors 184 New Jersey Employers with Annual Safety Awards
Trenton, NJ (WorkersCompensation.com) - The Christie Administration honored 146 New Jersey private employers and 38 public employers throughout the month of May, as the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development presented the 86th Annual Governor's Occupational Safety and Health Awards. These ceremonies honored and recognized employers for their safety achievements, promoting a culture of safety in the workplace, reducing safety hazards and preventing accidents.
The awards were presented by members of the department's Labor Standards and Safety Enforcement Division during five area dinners held throughout the state to recognize public and private employers with outstanding performance in preventing workplace injuries and illnesses.
“The Governor's Awards Program was developed to recognize individual employers who have demonstrated outstanding performances in preventing workplace injuries and illnesses. It is very important for us all to annually re-dedicate ourselves to making workers and worksites as safe as they can be. Every worker should be able to go to work each day, with their families secure in the belief that he or she will return home safe and whole after a good day's work,” said Labor Commissioner Harold J. Wirths.
The Governor's Safety Award was awarded to 18 companies that have participated in the program for four consecutive calendar years without lost time from a work-related injury.
The Commissioner's Continued Excellence Award was presented to 33 departments that have participated in the program for four or more consecutive calendar years without lost time from a work-related injury or illness, and the Governor's Continued Excellence Award was awarded to 85 companies or facilities that have participated in the program for five or more consecutive calendar years without lost time from a work-related injury or illness.
The Labor Department's Mark Wadiak, Assistant Director of OSHA On-Site Consultation and Training, and Justin Baker, Assistant Chief of Occupational Safety, presented the awards at regional dinners held between April 29 and May 21 for employers in five sections of the state: the Mercer-Monmouth Area, Southern Area, Northern Area, Union-Hudson Area and Middlesex-Somerset Area.
