Oregon To Host Workplace Safety And Health Conference
Salem, OR (WorkersCompensation.com) - Redmond will host the annual Central Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Conference Sept. 18-19, 2013, with the theme “ Does your safety and health programs have you covered?” The conference is being held at the Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond.
Oregon's Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA), a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, encourages workers and employers to attend the event to help improve safety and health performance. Transforming the workplace can help organizations reduce injuries and accidents, and decrease workers' compensation costs.
Some of the topics featured at this year's conference include:
Job hazard analysis
Effective safety committees and meetings
Disaster preparedness and emergency planning
Keynote speaker Shawn M. Galloway will present “Leading safety culture excellence” on Sept. 18. Co-author of STEPS to Safety Culture Excellence and award-winning workplace safety expert, Galloway has produced more than 300 podcasts, 100 articles, and 30 videos on the subject of safety excellence in culture and performance. His presentation will challenge audience members to reconsider what is and isn't safety excellence.
“Even though well intended, most organizations work hard to fail less rather than achieve success in safety,” said Galloway. “We tend to measure and motivate the wrong things and most strategies aren't effectively aligned to solicit the discretionary effort vital for sustaining excellence. I intend to share the better practices of the most successful organizations in safety performance and culture.”
