So I have been injured for about a week, low back injury. The problem is that my doctor doesn't seem to be taking me seriously. He asks me "why are you still hurting?". Umm, lets see, I injured my back doing heavy lifting... So my question is, can I get a new doctor, one that I trust? This doctor was the one I saw the day I was injured, and several times afterwards. He has poked me, given me several injections, and a slew of prescriptions. Should I have had more tests, especially since I now have pain going down my left leg. What can I do?

Was this a DR that your work sent you to...? Sounds a little off with him giving meds and injections all with in a week.. Did they at least do a x-ray. Have you file a wc claim.? If you have your own ins. I would be checking into another dr that aint going to give you the brush off.....

No Xray, but I have a claim in the works. I'm gonna check with another doc, I think.

you can go to any doctor within the carrier/employer Medical Provider Network. just notify them of the change.

You said you've been injured about a week now and have had all this treatment?

You can change doctors as many times as you like, so long as he/she is in your employer's MPN, if they have one. I would ask for a referral to a spine specialist before going that route.

I agree with Bronco....seems like alot of treatment in one week and especially without tests. I hope they are trigger point injections he's giving.

especially since most injuries are very self limited and resolved in 10-14 days.

I agree. How can he be giving you injections and treating you with all these meds when he has not even done a Xray to see what the problem is? Pain going down the leg could be sciatic. It could be a disc involved in this injury. If you let it go it can only get worse.
Chances are this is a WC doctor that will send you back to work soon if he has not already and I would definitly go to your own primary doctor to get a second opinion. Alot of injuries get worse when on WC due to delay of treatments.

UPDATE!!! I have finally received X-rays and my doctor is treating me for piriformis syndrome/ sciatica. I will be getting an MRI once WC approves, and a referral to a spine specialist! Score 1 for tenacity!!!

OK, so here's the deal. I received my MRI, and I have a 13 mm herniation of my L4-L5, and a smaller one of the L5-S1. But now, in addition to pain down my right leg, i have weakness and tingling in my left leg. What are my chances of surgery? And how does this look for me returning to full duties? Should I prepare myself for not returning to my ambulance?
