Another question..re. settlements vs. perm. disability
#11
P.S.
"impairment" is what the doctor describes as having been lost by the injury -- usually expressed as a rating percentage.
"disability" is how much the impairment rating is worth under your states work comp rules--
rating plus formula and calculations from the labor laws.
Reminder :
........Each state has their own comp system; POST YOUR STATE to get accurate information. Use the search feature to find information from similar questions.
THANKS FOR POSTING.

I am in new york state and was just giving a total and permanent disability rating of 100% for life, I have a lawyer but i am not sure if i want to keep working with him. He told me yesterday to do a quick settlement for $75000 to $100,000 to hold me over til i get my SSI, with medical left open. It sounds ridiculous to me. Shouldnt the settlement be more when i was awarded payments for life? what would be a reasonable settlement amount? My full benefit amount is $209 a week because at the time i was still in college and working a low paying job. Right now my prescriptions alone are almost $1000 a month. Really confused on what to do and would like to settle soon cause i feel like a prisoner in my home Sad

This thread is old, you need to start a new thread... That's not really a low ball amount, with medical left open they will be paying for your $1000.00 a month scripts. One thing to remember we the injured never get what we deserve. When you do the math that's only about 9 years of wages at your benefit amount. We never get rich, I settled but if my wife left me I would be screwed because mine wont support me....
