Lawyer or No Lawyer????
#1
Hello all. I was injured back in April. I was working on a A/C on a roof and the ladder slipped out when I was coming down it. I fell about 15 ft. and hit the sidewalk flat on my back. I broke 2 places in my back and damaged my wrist badly. I have had 2 Mri's of my back and 3 of my wrist. The back specialist said I should look for a different line of work also the wrist specialist said the same. Well I've been in apt. maint. for 20 yrs. and don't really know anything else. The wrist specialist said that I will not have full function of my wrist again and the back dr. said nothing over 10 lbs. I've heard that workmans comp. should send me for some kind of training to get back to work. LOL... BUT AT A DESK...and at the same rate of pay?? Some of injured workers that I talked to said it's time that I get lawyer. I'm in Houston. Just not sure which way to go with this. Any idea's would be very thankful.

why???????????? What is it that you think a lawyer can get for you in the state of texas that you can not do yourself?????????? I am not being sarcastic.

I will be back shortly with a web site that you want!!!!!!

I have been in the Texas wc system since 8-05. I am/was a hvac technition.

I think a mechanical engineer that sits behind a desk makes more than what you were.
That was in responce to your question about sitting behind a desk.

http://www.oiec.state.tx.us/

The above web site will be usefull in your quest.
8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. After going back to school, I received my degree as a mechanical engineer. What can I say, it was the only way I had to beat the system.

Thats just it AQA I'm not one to sit a desk. But hell if a engineer makes somewhere close to what I was making I'll check into it. Thanks for the heads up on that.

On the lawyer issue ya see thats why I came here to find out what direction I need to go with this. Thanks for the web site though I'll check it out.

Thanks for your response AQA.......

Garrett,

There are various reasons why one does or doesn't need a lawyer. Check this out and see if any info from other injured workers might ring a bell.

Hi EG,

I think what AQA meant was If w/c is paying your medical bills and sending you lost wages there is really no reason to seek an attorney, unless you feel you are being treated unfairly in some way. If I were you I would give it a little time see how things go if they offer you a settlement to your satisfaction and offer you retraining then there is no need to get an attorney. you can talk to your c/a and see what they plan to do. If they start delaying benifits or treatment then you can always go and seek legal help.

Sorry about your injury I hope things work out
