Moving from OK to WA, should I settle?
#1
Hi, found this forum after searching for info with no luck. Trying to help a friend get out of Oklahoma for a fresh start away from negative influences. His case is pending (he's had an MRI and he will likely need back surgery), and he is currently without any resources or supports (i.e., homeless). Would it be more feasible to:

1. Stay in Oklahoma and get the medical treatment there, for God knows how long;
2. Settle the case and relocate to Washington; or
3. Move to Washington and try to find providers who will deal with an Oklahoma worker's comp case?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

the key is competent medical care.
find doctors in new location that will take out-of-state workers comp before deciding.
it is still likely he may have to return to oklahoma for occassional consult or litigation.
whether to settle or not depends on the amount.
it probably will take a while to get a reasonable lump sum check, but that may be the easiest path out.
Reminder :

UPDATE: He said no surgery, 6 weeks of cortisone shots and physical therapy, then see what's next. His old spinal fusion surgery is okay. Any ideas about how long in general this could drag out, or how long it takes to get a settlement?
We're trying to get an idea of what this might actually look like specific to Washington and Oklahoma.

Thanks!!

Not sure what you mean—laws don’t change when injured moves around—- it’s the employers insurance not the workers.
Case should not settle until doctor says condition is stabilized ——- can’t predict that future or what future issues might arise.
Is case in litigation?
