Such a special mission may be a night school course which the employer encourages or partially pays for [Dimmig v. WCAB, 6 C3d 860, 37 CCC 211 (1972)], or it may be a convention or business meeting related directly or indirectly to the employment, and subject to the statutory limitation regarding off-duty recreational, social or athletic activity.

I don't have the specific facts and there is the subrogation re-imbursement issue but from your original post there is certainly enough caselaw to support comprehensibility. even if they rejected the claim at first it's a close enough issue that they would settle.

I’ll try pushing the issue again!  We don’t have another appointment with the attorney until next month. He’s on vacation.

Have your son Look up "workers compensation special mission" on google or lexis/nexis, yahoo, etc
There are dozens of cases in most states t hat recognize an off site meeting or class as an exception to the standard "going and coming" exclusion. It's been routinely covered for years.
Unless there's something unusual about this situation, there should not be any gray area or reason for denial.

Weak attys don't like informed clients; don,t expect a positive response.

Isn't that the truth!

And strong attorney's only sometimes get slightly annoyed at informed clients, and then quickly get over it.
I am not an attorney.Anything I write should not be considered legal advice.I am writing from my own personal experiences, which is not from any sort of legal background. You should consult with an attorney over legal issues. In California, if you cannot get an attorney you can consult with an I&A officer.
