I will probably be having surgery on my ankle in the near future and will be off work for 3-4 months. My disability insurance only offers $230 per week income to pay bill which is not enough. My current company has FMLA but not Aflac. It is a preexisting injury from years ago that has gotten worse. I do have a accident report from a past employer from about 5 years ago...is that an option to look into to help get more money to pay my bill? Or should I look into other types of short term disability insurance? Need help fast...would love to schedule the surgery ASAP.
Thank you!

Most states have a time limitation on old claims.
If you have medical opinion that current work aggravated the condition or accelerated the need for surgery, you can file a new comp claim with your current employer. It's likely they would fight it so no quick $$$.
Most short term disability insurance exclude current medical conditions. So buying it now would not help.
Some states have a non-industrial disability program for situations like yours.
But it sounds like you don,t think yours does.
