light duty?
#1
Hello,

State is Florida FYI. Both my neurosurgeon and pain doctor have declared MMI. The neurosurgeon has me at 3% for l5s1 sequestered herniation and problems with other discs, and DDD lower back.
My pain doc has me on 5% and he is the doctor who most recently gave that opinion of MMI.
My neurosurgeon told me last time I saw him that "we're not on the same page. You better get a second opinion". I'm trying not to use my only change because my neurosurgeon was a jackass. My girlfriend was at the appointment and she heard the language he used and the horrible way he treated me. I hope that I can change my neurosurgeon before the 10th of June. My pain doc referred me back to this neurosurgeon even though the neurosurgeon and I yelled at each other the last time I saw him. What a clown.

I was put on MMI immediately by my neurosurgeon. It took 6 months for my pain doc to come to that MMI decision. He has me on light duty as follows: cannot lift more than 20lbs and cant lift more than 10lbs while moving. Who the hell will hire a 300 lb guy like myself if I can't lift a couple gallons of milk?

Any insight to some of my problems would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You should look into re-employment services before you give a blanket write off to changing careers or starting a new occupation.
Don't sell your transferable skills short.

I agree. However I also have a BA in economics finance and a postbacc degree in health studies. Sad to say, but Florida doesn't offer many opportunities.

Yeah it sounds nice on paper but I have been pretty ill for the past 6 years and have been without much work. I know that it's not all that bad. But I have this doctor who under-medicates me and says I'm at MMI with work restrictions.
My injury is still not stable and I will be following up with him next week.

Any ideas on the problem with my neurosurgeon as to whether or not I can get a change in doctor without using my one and only change? He minimized my injury and insulted my girlfriend. My fists were balled and I was seeing red by the end of the session.

you can ask your doctor to refer you for a second opinion. if he doesn't treat I don't think it counts as a change.
