3 herniated discs
#1
Ok long story short I hurt my back at work. I am a mailman. WMC sent me to 3 of their doctor's and all three refused to look at my MRI and myelogram and all feel there is nothing wrong with me. I also have 3 doctors who see the herniation's ( 2 small *1 large @ L4 L5)when they review said MRI and myelogram but WMC does not want to pay for my to get my backed fused so What can I do.?

I know at the end of the day all WMC "doctor's" are joke's...but there should be law's to protect someone like me who has clearly been hurt while working and now needs a fusion to try and correct what I have going on in my lower back.

do the drs think you need fusion? or any surgery for that matter? sometimes remember surgery is a last resort. i myself am not a candidate for surgery my dr said he could do surgery on my lumbars l4l5-l5s1 but because i have so much damage in my thoracic it wouldnt be worth it i would still be in pain ! and i also wouldnt want just anybody cutting around my spine, are you seeing a specialist ? just because you have a herniation doesnt mean you need surgery there is gonna have to be severe radiculopathy, and any decent surgeon nuero or ortho will test to see if any are present.

Bottom line is that it is going to take a medical oppinion to dispute a medical oppinion.

With the information you provided. What makes you think you need to have your spine fused?? What makes you think that PT or some other conservative measure will not work????
8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. After going back to school, I received my degree as a mechanical engineer. What can I say, it was the only way I had to beat the system.

take your medical evidence to the comp court for a decision.

looks like i kept it to short ok here go's...Since I got hurt there are times when I can't feel my leg's for a few seconds this happens a lot. I did 3 epidural injections and nothing it didn't help me at all. I did 4 months of PT with 3 different place's and I think they made it worst. I also did a disco-gram (THAT WAS NOT FUN) So my Dr. finally said after reviewing everything and re-reviewing with another "back Dr." they both agree fusion might be the key. I have been hurt about 9 month's now and am not getting better. I just want to get back to work pain free and safe.....I am only 28 years old and am not looking to collect or go on Social Security disability. I have till the end of this month to report back to work due to WMC cutting me off 9/27/10...this whole thing is not cool...

wow i know exactly what you mean about the disco gram they are extremely painful...i just wanted to stop by and wish u luck in whatever you choose..my treatment was similar to yours 3 injections did nothing..disco gram found tears in the disk..a month later have a two level fusion..bout 10 months later was having hardware removed..its really only a decision i think you can make with your family and your dr..
SETTLED!!!

I didnt have the surgery....and I wont due to the fact I produce to much scar tissue..this is a case by case decision that has to be between you, your family and a Dr you trust.....it can help you walk without pain......it can put you in a wheel chair with unbearable pain for the rest of your life same surgery different results......think long and hard

again you need to have a Dr you trust and do some research yourself.....look at your body...anywhere you have cut yourself do you scar excessive? or do you heal well?Talk to your Mom and Dad have you ever had any problems healing? do you smoke? are you will to go to PT and continue to do it at home for the rest of your life.....Can you live with what you got now?weigh it agaisnt scar tissue growing inside your s1 disc giving you constant pain and putting you in a wheelchair? This surgery is not a cure all and the recovery is painfull.....think long and hard......do your research you are young....there are other options
