WHat the surgeon is telling you is that if you continue the job you're doing you could be back in his office soon and you're the one who will live with the pain after work. I have a cervical and lumbar injury not as severe as yours. Neither required surgery so I just live with them as they couldn't be fixed. My spine specialist also told me from day one I would neve rbe able to do the job I was doing for 20 years. He was right 2 1/2 years later I still have not returned to work. There is alot to think about when you are injured and alot to learn. Concentrate on getting through this surgery and recovering. One day at a time. Best of luck.
