Republicans Threaten SSDI benefits - 1171 - 01-08-2015

One of the first orders of business of the new republican controlled congress was to make it more difficult for congress to re-allocate additional funding for the SSDI program.
as the program runs low or high on funds congress regularly transfers $$ from and to the fund. Republicans want to make that more difficult now that SSDI needs more $$.

exactly.
they believe they will earn more voter support then they will lose;
after all it's more difficult for the disabled to get out and vote so they are probably correct.( except maybe for states with better vote by mail systems).

It's sad this would get more support and votes but you are right they may just because so many can't get out to do much about it

There sneaky, but im sure they figured this would impact the votes.. I see this as a win win for them, and like you said there is not much that can be done.. Hopefully the youngers that have parents and grandparents that are on ssdi will have a heart and see what tactics they are using to get the right voters... shame.

Our gov is running in the next election, wont have my vote, chronic liar...

From what I have read this is a complete mischaracterization of the legislation which would in fact start to reinstate the "Social Security Lock Box" by preventing the funds from being transferred for payment of other benefits. The purpose would be to assure that payment of Social Security Retirement/Old Age taxes are used for payment of those benefits. Not sure why anyone would object to this unless they want to rob the fund to pay for their own pet projects.

if you object to social security retirement taxes being used to offset short falls in SSDI funds, what are your plans for keeping SSDI funds efficient during fat & lean years?
what about ssdi beneficiaries when funds run dry?
stopping the transfers to balance the account without providing an alternative is pretty harsh governance of those on the lower end of the income scale.......

Maybe, but this is not a new problem and moving the money around doesn't solve it. Desperation is the mother of invention and so long as you are robbing Peter to pay Paul nothing gets done.

What is not helping matters are the commercials on tv and Facebook that make it looks so easy for a person to qualify and receive Social Security Disability.

Course the members of the forum know for experience that is not so... the general public and perhaps congress think must believe the commercials.
