feel i'm being forced to retire - bella - 06-22-2012

I'm in CA.

I decided to file for my calpers disability retirement today because my ex-employer gave me my medical benefit through June, then Corba. I'm 57 and had no plans to retire, I'm just trying to save my medical benefits.

i have a lawyer, I'm P&S, 20% disabled per QME. I am going to file for SDI because the QME didn't mention several body parts. So the lawyer will pursue another QME, I'm pretty sure.

Did I screw up my w/c &/or SDI case by getting ready to file for retirement? I'm afraid what little money is coming in will stop while I wait for the disability retirement to begin coming in.

Thank you for any information!

whether SDI will pay benefits to retirees is unknown. you would have to contact them about their rules:
http://www.edd.ca.gov/Disability/
WC medical and permanent disability are not affected by retirement plans.
