i believe it has alot to do with you returning to work or not, how much you were making, and how much you will be making with the new job they find you.

I will have a 1 level ACDF with fusion and hardware on Valentine's Day.

I started a thread on the off topics forum asking question about what to expect with the surgery & recovery.

Might be of help to you.

Hi
I had a 2 level C5-7 back in 2007. After 6 weeks I went back to work as a tractor trailer driver. I was in pain everyday and could only take the pain pills when I was off duty. This lasted almost a year and a half until a disc above herniated. Wound up having a second surgery so now I am fused from C4-7 with my C3-4 herniated. My C3-4 never fused. Doctor says I cannot work anymore plus the pain makes it impossible.
Everyone is different and your results may be better. Listen to your body and don't push yourself. Good luck
Just to add
The actual surgery and recovery is not that bad. I woke up with the expected sore throat but not as bad as what others have described. I spent one night in the hospital and was very nervous on the trip home with my wife driving (love her dearly) The first week I had almost no pain which I found out was because of all the meds that were in my body. Once that week passed all my pain came back.
My second surgery didn't go so well. I had a reaction to the morphine and was nauseous all night. Not good when you can't move your neck but I got through it
I didn't wear a collar or have a bandage on the incision. Hope this helps
