May 1 CONN-OSHA Session Addresses Trenching and Excavation Safety

Wethersfield, CT (WorkersCompensation.com) - Taking the proper safety precautions is a must for every worker in this state – especially for those individuals involved in excavation activities and who spend time in and around trenches. Being aware of how to adequately protect oneself in an environment that many people would consider precarious can often literally make the difference in getting the job done right, without injury.

On May 1, employees in the Connecticut Department of Labor's Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CONN‐OSHA) will take a close‐up look at the subject during a two hour “Trenching and Excavation Safety“ class that offers instruction on ways that workers can best ensure their own and their co‐workers' safety and health. The 10 a.m. to noon class, held at the agency's Central Office, 200 Folly Brook Boulevard in Wethersfield, will also provide an overview of 29 CFR 1926.650 – 652.

There are always hazards associated with working in a sub‐surface environment, or in a location that you are not familiar with, such as a trench,” explains CONN‐OSHA Occupational Safety Training Specialist Catherine Zinsser who is coordinating the program. “Our Trenching and Excavation workshop will cover the OSHA requirements for these activities and detail ways workers can improve safety and health procedures.”

Admission is free, but pre‐registration is required. To register for the session, or for additional information, please contact Zinsser at (860) 263‐6942, or via email at Zinsser.catherine@dol.gov.
