Sarasota, FL (WorkersCompensation.com) – 2021 may see a return to some sense of pre-COVID-19 normalcy. Scientists have a better understanding of the coronavirus, two vaccines are being rolled out and more are likely on the way.

But what ‘normal’ will look like is unclear. Also, the process of getting past the pandemic will undoubtedly be arduous.

“Developing a vaccine is the first step in the recovery from COVID19,” said Kimberly George, SVP of Corporate Development, M&A and Healthcare for Sedgwick. “However, distribution of that vaccine is a huge logistical undertaking.”

Other issues surrounding COVID-19 are likely to persist for the long term, especially for employers.

“Everyone talks about COVID-19 claims in workers compensation,” said Mark Walls, VP Communications and Strategic Analysis for Safety National. “However businesses are seeing COVID19 litigation in a variety of other areas including employment practices, general liability, medical malpractice, and Directors & Officers liability.”

The healthcare challenges of COVID-19 and claims development surrounding the virus are among the ‘issues to watch’ to be highlighted in an annual webinar next week. In all, 20 issues will be included in the upcoming Out Front Ideas Webinar with George and Walls. Among the additional topics are:

  • Election impact on risk management
  • Public health considerations
  • Insurance marketplace and rate outlook
  • Public sector financial challenges

The webinar takes place Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 12:00 EST.
