In Memoriam: David J. DePaolo
10/02/59 - 7/17/16

David DePaolo was a prolific blogger and popular voice within the workers' compensation community. His unexpected death in July of 2016 was tragic for both his nuclear family and his extended comp family. David's blog, "DePaolo's Work Comp World" was a must read for those in the know, and he was an active writer right up until his death. In fact, David wrote more in just one half of 2016 than some of our esteemed bloggers wrote all year.

His blog was nominated for this year's Best Blog program, and it was submitted for judging where it performed well. However, since it is not an active blog under the 2017 banner year, it could not be included in the list of winning 2017 blogs.

Therefore, we proudly dedicate this year's Best Blog Recognition Program to David DePaolo, who not only entertained, informed and educated us, but set the standard for quality and consistency in the workers' compensation blogosphere.

About the Judges

For our Best Blogs contest we reached out to several industry leaders, each with a different position and perspective on the workers' compensation industry. They collectively combed through more than 50 nominated blogs to select the best our industry has to offer. We appreciate their input, and thank them for their efforts. You may see who they are and read their bios here.

**Nominated blogs were asked to provide age and traffic information. Those that failed to respond to that request were negatively impacted slightly in the overall scoring process. Judges who had a blog nominated did not have the opportunity to vote on their own work.

Announcing the Best Blog Designees for 2017!

The blogs below were all nominated by citizens of the workers' compensation community. They were judged on several criteria. In addition to objective categories such as age of blog, frequency of posting and website traffic**, they were also assessed by an independent judging panel for content quality, value and timeliness. Designated blog category was determined by people nominating the blog. In the event of multiple nominations, the category selected by the majority of nominators was used.
