Favorite slo cooker recipes
As I love to cook, but hate the heat in the summer, I have compiled a box of slow cooker (aka crock pot) recipes. I'll start out with one of my favorites I found on allrecipes.com back in 2002. I make it at least twice a year, but modifed the recipe a little over time.

NGREDIENTS
2 pounds beef sirloin, cut into 2 inch strips (I substitute a large round steak, as its cheaper and comes out super tender)
garlic powder to taste
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cube beef bouillon
1/4 cup hot water
1 tablespoon cornstarch (if too thin, mix 1tbsp more with cold water and add at end to thicken sause)
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 large green bell peppers, roughly chopped (i use thin slices, just personal prefrence)
1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes, with liquid
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
DIRECTIONS
Sprinkle strips of sirloin with garlic powder to taste (i soak mine in a mix of soy sause and garlic/onion powder for an hour beforehand). In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil and brown the seasoned beef strips. Transfer to a slow cooker.
Mix bouillon cube with hot water until dissolved, then mix in cornstarch until dissolved. Pour into the slow cooker with meat. Stir in onion, green peppers, stewed tomatoes, soy sauce, sugar, and salt.
Cover, and cook on High for 3 to 4 hours, or on Low for 6 to 8 hours.
I also hold off on adding the green peppers until about 1/2 way done so they dont turn out too mushey.

Use a rice cooker to make two batches of whole grain rice (4 cups cooked). serve meat mix over well cooked rice. The way i serve it, this makes 2 dinner servings and 3 take along lunches for work.
tip: to easily cut the meat into strips place in freezer until it starts to stiffen up some, but not frozen. Use razor sharp tall blade knife and a good cutting board. dont attempt to cut raw meat with any searated blade, it clogs up and just makes a mess.
Maybe ill instruct my wife thru this one this weekend Tongue

RE: Favorite slo cooker recipes
sounds great, and easy Jayne!
Adding that one to my box!
Here is another of mine, i use this one for entertaining on fall evenings, or when im in the mood.
1 you need a large (oval style helps too) slo cooker to hold this one...

3lb cheapest beef roast money can buy, cut in 1/2
Enough potatoes peeled and quartered to fill bottom 1/3 of slo cooker.
1 bag baby carrots, rinsed
1 large onion coarsly chopped
2 beef bullion cubes
---spices---
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1.5 tsp mrs dash table blend
1/2 tsp seasoned salt
---end spices---
2 bay leaves
2 cups HOT water
start by mixing the spices together, and dividing the mix in half
cut roast in 1/2 leaving fat on both halves
place each half of roast in its own zip loc bag, add 1/2 of spices to each and shake to distribute. pat into meat, get air out of the bag, and refridgerate while prepping the rest if the stuff.
add prepaied potatoes, baby carrots, then onions to crock pot. remove meat from bags and place fat side up on veggies.
Mix hot water and bullion cubes til disolved, and pour in, avoiding rinsing spices off meat. Place one bay leaf near each piece of meat cover.
cook on high for 1 hour
turn to low for 8 or so hours, or until the meat nearly just falls apart.
remove bay leaves, serve as desired.

My Favorite. Throw all your cut up left overs in, and slow cook them together. looks like stew, and will taste just as good. Sounds sick at first, till you have tried it.

Badboy, we used to call that "Hobo" stew when I was growing up. Money was tight with family of 7 children and only one military income. I remember the Hobo stew as a "family favorite". Tongue

Let Go, and Let God......
