Hiring a worker with no Workers Comp - risks?
Hello!!
We need some drywall work done on our house, and we got an offer from a guy who has no Workers Comp. He charges cheaper than a contractor, but what if he gets hurt while working on our house? Are we the ones responsible and can he file a lawsuit against us? What are the risks involved in hiring somebody who has no Workers Comp? Thanks in advance for the answers! |

RE: Hiring a worker with no Workers Comp - risks?
Yes, you would be responsible, and most likely found liable if he hurts himself while working on your residence. There can be tremendous risk involved when hiring somebody who does not have workers' comp insurance. As the owner of the property, you are completely at risk, as he could actually sue you for damages.
Another thing to consider, if he does not have comp, does he carry general liability? What if he damages your home, or injures another while working there? Is he adequately insured for that? You need to protect yourself, and insist that anyone who does work on your home is covered by adequate insurance, from all sides of the equation. "In the interest of peace, one should change their signature often" (or when threatened by someone who packs heat)

RE: Hiring a worker with no Workers Comp - risks?
you heard the old addage that the road to hell is paved with good intentions? Intentions are important, but one needs to have a vision and a means of achieving that vision along with good intentions. As believers, we know we can never change of our own free will. However, we are promised an Advocate, One who will come alongside in our struggle. The Holy Spirit is the effective agent of change in my life. A life yielded to Him can produce wonders and has produced wonders in my life, but a vision is needed, intentions affirmed and a means of daily releasing the will to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit

Good to know, although a couple million islamists and Hindu's might disagree.
