Summer Progam/United Way

[Bummer Knees]

I volunteer for a United Way Agency coordinating a summer program for children with disabilities. This progam is at no cost to families.

Most the work I do is done from home by e-mail & phone and I work as I am able to.

The program provides tutoring & speech therapy to children in the summer to help prevent regression of what they have learned in the school year.

Last year there were challenges in coordinating staff & family schedules, but in the end we successfully served 65 children.

This year the summer progam is looking at serving more children with the dollars we have, but with volunteers in the community I believe things will come together.

This year local school districts face stiff budget cuts in our state and this means cuts in the district's summer program and this will effect our program

Things are comming together, with volunteers, and the board of directors I believe we will again have a successful program this summer.
