RE: Physical Therapy Vertigo Eval
PT after surgery with the neck will be fine. Just take your medications.

Bad Boy you are right on target.

The surgeon's nurse returned the phone call and said surgery will be with a local, and there will be no problems with having therapy for the neck on Wed/Thurs/

Thanks BBBB!

RE: Physical Therapy Vertigo Eval
The physical therapist did notice weakness of the left shoulder when doing the eval.

(I have a left lateral protrusion of C5-6 among other issues)

Would the weakness of the shoulder be related to problems with the neck?

Yes mame.....and you could possibly have a shoulder problem....could also be coming from the wrist/hand problem....my $1 is on your neck.

God is never late.

RE: Physical Therapy Vertigo Eval
Weakness in any area is going to always be a possible; Why? Because, once injured to a spine, the person now has to perform 1 hour a day of at home PT. One injured with this, should know the PT home program, buy the straps and weights, bike and thread mill, to perform the regular PT sessions at home. This has to be performed from now to end of life. If it isn't performed atleast 3 times a week or more, weakness sets in certain body areas. And they need to be built back up, and maintained again all over again.

My doctor and Therapisit always said, if the person can come up with an excuse to not perform PT atleast 3 times a week at 1 hour or more, that they will not accept the excuse.

RE: Physical Therapy Vertigo Eval
Makes sense, and I would like to learn some of the exercises I need to do.

I haven't had any physical therapy other then 2 weeks of massage & traction done in 2007.

I hoped the physical therapist I am working with would show me some exercises but he only wants to concentrate on traction.

I see the doctor who wrote the PT orders tomorrow and we will talk about the pt orders that were written.

I believe the orders need changed.

Had traction today using a machine.

Therapist set the machine for 25 lbs, thought my head was going to explode.

When taking me off the machine the shoulder/neck muscles started heavy spasms.

Spasms have since decreased, although not gone away.

I see the osteopath in the morning and will see what he has to say about physical therapy.

RE: Physical Therapy Vertigo Eval
You need to ask and talk with the Doctor's about a home PT program. If you don't ask, you may not get the information. Many set-up the program through the PT office, and PT shows what you will be doing at home then, and wont do anymore while at PT. Then at PT they have you work on other things, then on your PT off days, you do home PT. This means for awhile you will perform 6 days of PT for awhile.

RE: Physical Therapy Vertigo Eval
I agree Bad Boy.

That is one of the things I will talk to the doctor about tomorrow.

I do not like the therapist I have, he is very agresive in treatment.

I do know of a couple of patients he worked with that ended up having surgery because they were injured under his care.
