WC and Tattoo shop

Opening my first small shop, 5 people working there, Im confused on wether or not I need WC. All the artists say they have never had WC, that because the cut that I receive from them covers booth rentals, that tech. they are not employees. They do their own taxes a carry there own liability insurance...I want to do the right thing, just dont want to spend the money if not needed. Thanks, Chris

each state has it's own laws on which business require comp insurance; there is no one rule for every business operation in the country. without knowing your state I can't answer.
You can also find out about what is required by your buisness from a local insurance broker.

yes you will need comp insurance in california even if for other purposes they can be considered "independent contractors".
Under california comp law they are still your employees.
