RE: SSDI 2010
My mom, lives in Wisconsin, She is 89, on medicare, She live's only on her SS retirement. BUT she has already paid for her funeral, years ago There are many programs that help the elderly, Most in Wisconsin by volenteers. She has a lady that take's her on Mondays where ever she needs to go. Gocery shopping, Dr appointments, etc The only thing my mom pays for is her cable(basic) and phone. She lives in an elderly apt where her gas and elec are included, and rent is based on 30% of her income. She has no other source of income and has no problem, she even can save a few dollars every month . She gave up driving and gave her car to my nephew a few years back, but even when she had her car with ins and all she did not have a problem. Because she retired at age 62, and not full retirement age her SS was less. So she is looking forward to the $250.00, But also said if she didn't get it it wouldn't matter as she has saved for a rainy day.
Mom is from the old school, believes in making it on your own, Save,Save, Save I have heard all my life, and watch what you spend, She get's less than $800.00 a month . Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain. |

RE: SSDI 2010
Tuffy...your mom sounds like mine. She is 86 and on her own. Has a nice apartment and lives on SS and a very small pension. Paratransit is free in her area so she has rides everywhere. Still volunteers in medical records in the local hospital. I was taught to split my pay 3 ways. 1/3 for bills. 1/3 for savings and 1/3 in my pocket for spending. When I was younger that 1/3 for spending was carfare, lunch and clothes. Not much but I made it work. Taught my girls the same way and they ahve always paid their bills, had a savings account and had $$ in their pocket. My mom retired at 59 when they more or less forced her out. It was a great deal so she took it. Never looked back or regretted it. She will also be looking forward to the $250 as it's a present to her. I'm curious who will get it in my home since we are both on SSD. Me or Bill.
God is never late. In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years. |

RE: SSDI 2010
Cap, why wouldn't you both get it? Did you both receive the last one? my sister and her hubby both received it, Him because of SS and her because of SSD
