Just got pulled from work
I got pulled off of work yesterday. The doctor said I will not get my leg back. Tendon tranfer isn't a good option for me. She said I need to get a vocational person. They would find me another job in King County or send me back to school. That's find even though I love my job. Only thing is what do I do for money if this happens? Does my job or L&I pay me while I am sent back to school? I work for the county and they have private self insured L&I.
I had two back surgeries with my L5 S1 fusion and L5 joint removed. I have arachnoiditis and drop foot in right leg with over 60 percent loss. It's hard for me to sit for very long. I am 35 years old. My back doctor said my fusion is coming along good. It's half way fused. He wants me to go on anti depression pills because I get depressed over this. No way! I get depressed when I see I can't do anything or when I think about what I have given up already. I gave my dog away, quit coaching softball, and we are thinking about getting rid of our house. I asked my husband because I can't keep up with it here and the yard. He doesn't do much around the house but he is the best hubby. That is why I get depressed. I think anyone would. That's a short story about me but I still would like to know if I will get paid while I am in school? I got told I could collect long term disability through work and SSD. Is that true? If so, doesn't anyone have a round about figure on what I would receive? Thanks |

RE: Just got pulled from work
what's your state?
i think washington has an "L&I" but I don't know about a King county? am I close? each state has their own work comp laws and what your state does about rehabilitation is probably different then every other state. sorry, there is no one answer for every worker..... if you are going to post regularly you should show your state in your profile. |

RE: Just got pulled from work
I am from WA state and I learned a lot since 2004 how this w/c system works. Although self insurance is a little different from L&i they are almost the same.
You are going to be contacted by a Vocational Firm and they will start working with you. While you are in vocational rehab(including attending school)your time loss check will continue. If the vocational counselor finds that you have a transferable skill and your doctor agrees you can do that type of work, your time loss check will end. If no transferable skill found, you might be eligible for schooling and you can get up to $10 000 for this. If you turn this down, you can cash it out. Regarding the settlement, nobody can give you a figure, but it is time to hire a good lawyer if you don't have one already. Be careful with the vocational person..you never know if they work for your interest or not. I found out, some really stood up for me but on the other hand, some others sold me out really quick. Also, it is very important you have a good relationship with your doctor who understand your true limitations and goals. It makes a big difference in your claim what your doctor recommends(other job or training). Good luck. Kat |
