Oxycodone question
Is Oxycodone the same stuff as OxyIR? Or atleast the same basic stuff. Doctor said he was ordering OxyIR for it would be fast acting and what I got was Oxycodone HCI so I was just wondering.

RE: Oxycodone question
Thanks for the answers. This med is not going to help right now but I will try it. I've been having increased pain when walking or just moving so I called the pain center. They didn't call me back by the end of the day so I went to the ER that night. They didn't do anything other then to give me a shot and call my PM doc again. PM doc called next day and could see me the next day but it wouldn't be my normal doc because he was off. Told them I just needed to see a doc as soon as possible. Well that was a mistake. Saw him yesterday and after hearing what I was saying he thinks it's just muscular so he ordered OxyIR for break thru pain, I take oxycotin twice a day now. You would think if he believed it to only be a muscular he would have given me something to relax them and not just more pain meds. This is nerve pain but I will try this for the 4 to 5 days. Guess I need to remember the note I had them put on my chart, Only see this doctor. I left doc's name off but if they can only get me into him on short notice I will go back to ER.

RE: Oxycodone question
There really is no such thing a s a muscle relaxer. Those touted as such are actually central nervous system depressants, which is why they actually make you tired and uhm.... relaxed I guess.
Are you on Lyrica or gabapentin for nerve pain? |

RE: Oxycodone question
Hi Manley! The IR Behind the Oxy Means "Immediate Release", and will give the Full Force of the Medication in Approx. 45 Minutes or so, it's Different for Each Person, and Their Metabolism Rate. ER Medication, or "Extended Release" Releases Small amounts of the Med. over a Period of Usually 6 or 8 Hours, Some even Over 12 Hours. I was on the Fentanyl Patch 100 Mcg. Per Hr. and I had to Keep the Patch on for 3 Days. My Breakthrough Med to Help My Methadone is Morphine Sulfate 30mg IR., and it does a Pretty Good Job for Me. I Hope this Helped Answer Your Question, and Have a Great Day!!

RE: Oxycodone question
I was not aware until recently that Oxycontin is also used for breakthough pain. My husband through his cancer treatment has been given 80 mg. of Oxy 2xs daily with Dilaudid for breakthrough but the pharmacist told us that a 5 mg or 15 mg. of Oxy for breakthrough some say works better. Ididn't even know they made it under 20 mg.

RE: Oxycodone question
Hi Cap.!! I Believe Manley is Speaking of Oxycodone, not Oxycontin. I do Think Oxycontin could be Used as a Breakthrough Med., but I don't have too Much Experience with it. I get so Confused with These Meds. and Their Generic Versions, it's Hard to Keep Track of them All! Have a Great Day!!
