Oxycodone question

RE: Oxycodone question
They had me try about all the differant meds for nerve pain but none worked. My big problem with this visit was that this is nerve pain and he didn't seemd to hear me. The added oxy maybe takes the edge off alittle but thats it. Two weeks ago I could do something as simple as walk around the block but not now. I'm still wondering if the blocks they did on my back 3 days before this started didn't do something to trigger it.

RE: Oxycodone question
Yep, you got it now.

Ok...I think I 've got it now. Oxycontin is used for chronic pain and percocet for acute?? Yes? The oxy my pharmacist spoke of for breakthrough I am now assuming is the Oxy IR. He would then take an Oxycontin 12 hours apart and OxyIR as needed for breakthrough instead of percocet. I do understand the acetominophen in the percs. Every Dr. my husband sees including his oncologist has warned him about overuse of these because of the toxitity to the liver.

Thank you gentlemen!Smile

Manley....as has been said here no narcotic gets you any closer to the cause of the pain , they just mask it. Nerve pain , in particular, which alot of us suffer from I find it almost impossible to control. Neurontin has helped me somewhat and steroids are great. BUT steroids cause so many other problems and me being a diabetic I don't use them unless it's absolutely necessary. I hope you work this out.

RE: Oxycodone question
I take neurotin, skelaxin, and loratab 10, use a tens unit, and pain patches, and would go off it tomorrow if I could!

I still don't sleep at night due to the pain and am fighting the doctor on adding any more meds.

One reason I dislike meds so much is due to a personal experience.

My 11 yr old daughter was OD in the doctor's office, she had a medication pump implant. She died a few days after the overdose.

RE: Oxycodone question
Bummer I'm so sorry about your daughter. I heard a story of a local doctor that was refilling a morphine pump and missed the port. Almost killed the guy. Not sure I would ever let him touch me.

I don't like taking meds at all and would not if I didn't have to. That is part of why I don't like taking the extra oxy. It only takes alittle off the pain I'm getting right now but I'm giving it a shot in hopes in the 4 or 5 days it might get better and I could be in less pain.

RE: Oxycodone question
I've always been the kind of guy that if the headache bottle says to take 1-2 tablets I would take one in hopes that was enought. I've worked in EMS and always remember seeing all these meds that the older folks take and think how is this good for us. Well now at 47 I look at the meds I take and think I'm one of those old folks and it's way too early. The last thing I want to do is to have to stay on this stuff for the rest of my life and right now it doesn't look like any of them will be going away any time soon.

RE: Oxycodone question
Manley I have found over the past 3 1/2 years since my injuries that not much works. I am med sensitive so tend to stay away from what I can. I only take a narcotic on occasion as I don't think they really help and I kid myself into thinking on high pain days that I'm getting relief. I use alot of ice, alot of warm baths and alot of stretching and try really hard not to do anything that will aggravate the pain. I do find that for the nerve pain if I stop taking neurontin the pain is unbearable. It's very hard to get on a PM paln that works and for some sadly nothing does.

God is never late.

In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years.

RE: Oxycodone question
I think I was just coming to believe I could not do allot of things I use to but now that I can't even walk around the block this really sucks. If they find out this is just the way it's going to be then I will learn to deal with it to. It's just going to take some time and alot of love from my family. This has not helped the depression at all
